Biography: Lady Espina has been an intricate part of the Iowa electronica scene since 1999. Beginning with a liking for drum and bass, trance, hard nrg, and progressive, Espina's taste have evolved and grown over time. In the past couple of years she has found a niche within electro, breakbeats, German and Detroit influenced techno, experimental and even underground hiphop. As a DJ and music lover, she is well rounded and know ledged in the realm of labels, producers, mcs, djs, live acts in the worlds of electronica and hiphop. She was a college radio DJ and part of the administrative staff at 89.7 KRUI FM "Iowa City's Sound Alternative" at University of Iowa from May of 2002 through December 2004. Her involvement in college radio helped to broaden her horizons in independent music as well as an over all appreciation for different sounds. Espina has been known to have an energetic stage presence and confidence which is what continues to get her gigs in and around the state of Iowa. Her refined mixing ability coupled with her taste in tracks with a dance floor appeal continues to keep crowds satisfied. She has played on the roster with several well known artists such as Tommie Sunshine, Terrence Parker, Woody McBride, Boo Williams, Nick Santillian, The Faint and Donald Glaude, amongst others. She has had the opportunity to play out of state in neighboring areas such as Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Kansas. She is the creator of her website and productions company, Mina Capa Productions, established in May of 2004. This includes personal DJ mixes, past and upcoming events, news, gallery, links etc. Her future plans include music production and personal goals include moving back to her Chilean stomping grounds and eventually returning to the states to continue her education in alternative medicine, nutrition, or massage therapy. She currently holds a B.A. in Communication Studies and Spanish from the University of Iowa. WRITINGS et al.. 05.23.06 Miercoles This weekend was a blast playing @ Closer for SC productions. Thanks for having me on the big rig Matt, I know only a few were there when I spun, but I played my heart out and sincerely had a blast. Sorry that I didn't make it much past 1:45 am. My bed was calling!
Another party worth mentioning is coming up her on June 24th. It features some of Iowa's finest female DJ's. You should totally be there for all the hottness.
This weekend is going to be insane as I prepare myself for yet another mini vacation which includes a visit to Detroit "techno" city!! Here are some websites for more information: Here are some various flyers for the event:
This weekend is going to get seriously nutty. Sunday night is a toss up between Substance 3 and the party with Beyer and Zentz. Hmmm... Get a hold of me kids. I'll be online and on IM. Outtie @ 12:11 pm ++Nati++ 03.18.06 Sabado So many new things have happened lately. The biggest update would include a special trip to Miami, FL. Miss Omayra Ortega and I are heading down to the M3 Summit and WMC week in SoBe. The amount of events going on are endless and reluctantly, Mary aka Lady Crysis, hooked her and I up for a tagteam event on Mon 03.27.06. It will be a blast to tag with her again! Here is the flyer by the event sponsored by Geizhaz.
This should be really exciting! Can't wait.. a few more buzzworthy events worth mentioning: to be up soon! 02.13.06 Martes I picked up a ton of dope tracks recently. From a few different sites in which I've been perusing lately. Was browsing ELECTROWAX and found some noteworthy 12's worth purchasing such as: **Anthony Rother "In Electro we trust" (Datapunk) **Depeche Mode "A Pain that I'm used to" <Bitstream rmxs> (Mute) **Boris Divider "Point of No Return EP" (Msx Records) **Anthony Rother "This is Electro" DVD -- which is amazing. Please remind to play for you the "Little Computer People" video. Which is absolutely incredible.. for more info on the DVD hit up: PSI49net I've been junking out on Beatport as well. It seems as if the times are a changing so much more in terms of underground dance being accessible to mp3 format for the digital dj. Yes, I still understand the vinyl dj and the purity of it all.. but I've seen a slue of benefits with this whole ordeal. I think that the one major significant change is that I can keep up to date better with digital formats, it is cheaper, and easier to keep organized (with some exceptions). Some particular sites are designed to keep you linked to labels and certain artists collaborating, this is especially helpful in finding new sounds, it is a map of sorts. The drawbacks include technical difficulties with this area more predominantly in the digital format. Owning pressed black or pink or colored vinyl is part of my fetish with collecting records. Knowing that I have one of a *LIMITED* number of BJoRK's "POST" circa 1995 makes me all tingly inside. The sound... oh the sound of pressed material.. so clear, yet gritty and dirty and the same time. A little rough around the edges never hurt anyone now did it?
For now.. I've chosen to compromise and take the middle ground. I've moved ahead by letting go of my single minded idea of Vinyl or the Highway.. and decided to merge with the future soundscapes and possibilities. I bought this track on beatport recently featuring two amazing and female producers: Miss Dinky (de Chile) and Ellen Allien (de Alemania)... who we all know is my lifelong love. Dinky remixed Ellen Allien's track "Down" from Thrills LP (BPitch Control 2005). It is a chunky tribal influenced stomper that keeps the essentials from Down but creates and entirely too sexy track for it's own good. These woman work amazingly well together.
Another worthwhile event that must be scoped is coming up for Unique Productions and the Institute to Blow your Mind: This show is going to be straight nutz! IC are you ready?? Happy Birthday to you!! March 4th "LIVE" @ Gabe's Oasis Washington St. Iowa City, IA featuring:

flashbulb Well the updates went well. Hopefully some stop by my world to check the latest in my musical voyage. New demo out soon.. it is going to rock! Signing out @ 3:12 PM ~~Nati~~ 01.03.05 Tuesday Hello and hello. 2005 was filled with many highlights throughout the year and I personally am looking forward to wonderful things in the future. It was a pleasure to play @ French Xmas in Cedar Rapids... big thanks to Laeticia for having me out. It's sad to hear that Orbit Video Bar will be closing the doors. It was always such a quaint atmosphere, very homey like. No immediate plans for the new year.. but a studio mix is in the works. Seriously this time. No Joke. Here are some upcoming events for January. I'm not spinning anywhere yet, but I'm sure something will come in the near future.
My boy Matt Killer is visiting us from Chicago. His drum and bass is the bomb. Love it. Of course, all the other talent is sound worthy as well. Visit Bassic for more info. Solar Cathedral Productions are at it again:
Check it.. watch this space for more info. New pics are in the gallery! 10.26.05 Wednesday By this point, my existence has quite possibly been questioned! Yes, I am alive and kickin' and have updates for you folks on the bomb events coming up in my area and beyond. The fine folks @ phocas.net have decided to invite me down for a special Phocas sponsored party the 18th of November in Kansas City, MO. Check out their forum for some more up to date hype! I was asked to do an interview which will be featured in Phoca's online publication to be published in November. Chris Melborne asked me a series of questions which were quite fun to answer. I learned a bit about myself in the process. Thank you for the opportunity.
I'd like to thank some fine folks in advance for inviting me out to celebrate this special event with them: Thank you DJ Solaris, Todd Corner, Chris Milborne, Brent Crampton and the rest of the Phocas crew. You guys won't be disappointed!! I danced my ass off at this particular event. Lori aka SUBK threw down an absolutely amazing set that evening! I hope we have the chance to run into each other sometime soon. The techno headz in Iowa City and surrounding areas dug your sound! Keep it up. Nate and Steve.. I don't know what to tell you guys. You know what is up. Word! To catch SUBK's set from the evening.. hit it up here.
In other news... this party was off the chain on October the 8th. I had the chance to play out with my new gear and my laptop so that was some fun stuff!
To see some fine pics from this event click here. Thanks to Matt Rissi aka DJ Sonar for inviting me out to this hoorah. It was a total blast. The line up and all the music was sick!!
Thanks to LGG for taking such a smiley shot of me! I love it. You're a peach! On August 19th: Throwdown in Iowa City went down. A little local shindig with a whole lot of townie love and good old Gabe's Oasis. Seriously, dirty bar, awful bathrooms, despite the downfalls; wonderful vibes and atmosphere have been created there various times in the past (let's not mention they make the stiffest drinks in town!). Here is a DJ set from LADY ESPINA live @ Throwdown! It isn't the best mix known to man.. but I had fun. In August there was French Kiss held @ Club Orbitz in CR. This place is such an intimate venue with such friendly faces and was a blast. I love the classy club atmosphere and Orbitz as a monthly event has been going great. You are dong well Laeticia. Thanks!!
I'm proud of myself for trying to maintain. I've been bogged down lately by all sorts of things but usually don't like to bring those things to surface and bombard other's with my silly life stories. I'm working on some exciting side projects, hopefully to revealed soon enough. I love you all. Signing off @ 12:04 am. *mauh* kisses your Nati 07.13.05 Wow. My sincere apologies for seriously slacking on updating the news. I did have the chance to spin at an event in conjunction with an Information Technology conference held in Cedar Rapids, IA. On June 16th, thanks to the folks at Informatics: All things Internet, I was able to share the sound of electronica to a little different crowd. I was different and interesting. Positive feedback was given from those in attendance. Later on that evening, I proceeded to Club Coyote for a techno throwdown. This was also quite amusing. After spinning for a total of 5 hours between the two events, I was ready to relax a bit. I don't know how some dj's can spin for 8 hours and not even leave to use the restroom! Haha. Here are a few upcoming events that I am scheduled to DJ at: 07.30.05: 515 Alive Des Moines, IA. Downtown 4th St. I will be performing @ midnight at the World Dance Stage held at the Lift nightclub. 08.25.05: French Kiss @ Orbit Nightclub Cedar Rapids, IA. Downtown 219 2nd St. SE. I will headlining this event. Hopefully a 2 hour set will be ready to go with some new technology added to my DJ set up. More info TBA. I'll be back soon with more info on other events coming up!! Out @ 8:08 *Tal* 04.12.05 Tues Yoyoyo. There are actually a couple of events worthy of mentioning. So, here it goes. Coming to Iowa City on May 30th..the infamous Derrick Carter.
This show is going to kick a lot of ass. So...check it!! Also..here is a new event that just got posted for Friday May 13th! Solar Cathedral and Udopia present.. Alter-Ego's Theme Party:
Information taken from Ubersonic.org: Friday the 13th is a special night, we invite

In personal news.. I'm moving to Cedar Rapids at the end of May. I'm pretty excited about it and slightly anxious at the same time. I'm outta here @ 9:55 PM +Nati+ 03.11.05 Fri I'm not trying to neglect the news update. Just busy with day to day things and such. I wanted to give you an update to a couple of things going on in the near future. Tomorrow this show is worth going to: Check out me boyz from SSM - SOLID STATE MEMORY

Our little homies Dynamyte and Kaylo Ree are only twelve and thirteen years old and will rock the stage. We welcome Lady Espina, the hottest area female DJ with electro and Techno beats.. Other than that, this past weekend was amazing. Gallery has been updated and the entire evening was recorded. I will be updating you as soon as the recordings get into my possession. I hope sometime sooner than later. Thanks so much to Nate and Steve for letting me reprazent with Terrence Parker. I enjoyed every second of it and appreciate your support. Thanks to everyone. Out @ 3:22 PM 01.24.05 Mon The confirmations for the February 12th show are in and this is going to be rockin'! I'm super stoked. I purchased new records today from Unit 4, Alden Tyrell, Ellen Allien, Il.Ek.Tro, Jackal and Hyde, Tiefschwarz, Mount Sims, Legowelt and Apparat. With the records I already own looks like this one is going should be off the chain. YEAH!
In other news... I've been asked to come visit Kansas City again for a St. Patty's Day celebration. My girl DJ CQuence hit me up tonight on AIM and asked me if I'd be interested. Also, plans are in the works for possible out of state ventures for this spring. Nothing confirmed yet, so I'm not spilling the beans. BE THERE ON FEBRUARY 12th or you totally suck and will miss out. SERIOUSLY. Not just for me, TP will make the walls at Gabe's sweat. Peace, love and get ready to be SPANKED! -out @ 10:56 PM 01.09.05 Sun Woah. It's a new year. Way too much happened to me in the past few days that things are unexplainable at this point. Personal issues aside.. new projects include working on the new logo I've been promising for the site. Last night was a decently packed house @ The Yacht Club in Iowa City. I would like to thank Iowa's first original female DJ Miche for organizing the event and having me out to play other people's records! Haha. It was jammin'. I would like to make an announcement about and upcoming worthwhile event coming up February 12th in Iowa City, IA:
Be there bitches. It will be well worth your time and your dime (which should be well within reason). More info to be posted soon. Another noteworthy event which is coming up this coming weekend hosted by IMAC Productions is DOTD3. Expected attendance upwards to 600 ppl. EctoOne of Solid State Memory will be hosting visuals for the downstairs area. Check it.
Signing off @ 11:52 am 11.23.04 Tuesday Hello and hello. Indeed the gallery has been expanded! Three cheers for Lady E! Go peep it out folks. More to be added later this afternoon. I had two whole days off work so this gave me a bit of time to concentrate on this fun stuff. The temperature is dropping in Iowa City so it is starting to feel miserable. I'm not one for the cold weather but have learned to tolerate it. I just don't like my feet getting all wet and soggy. Yuck. I ate some Sushi last night at a new joint called General over on the West side of town. Our server was a bit out of his element for whatever reason. He was really frantic.. oh yeah, probably because he was the only one on the floor for like the 9 tables seated. You'd hope he made some bank! I love Philadelphia Maki rolls. Delicshe! KRUI page is all updated. I'm working on some new ideas and hopefully and Mina Capa logo in the next month. Peace @ 12:30 11.08.04 Monday News and stuff. Gallery will be expanded in the next week! I promise this time. More links have been added. Woot. Comment edit. Thanks @ 16:18 10.29.04 TOMORROW EVENING FOLKS!! THE NIGHT HAS COME! Muahahahahah....
10.18.04: I'm back folks. Yes, it has been a while. I just moved into a new apartment and I just recently got reconnected to the net. I was fixing to get back on for a while there. It is all good, I'm now reconnected. I just updated my KRUI play list and more photos will be added to the gallery in the next week. This Wednesday 10.20 is Addictive @ The Reverb in Cedar Falls. Should be good times. 1st in a series of monthly events
This friday 10.22 at Gabe's Oasis is the det.und tour featuring some fabulous minimal, electro, techno and idm. I am personally very saddened that I will not be able to make this event. Guess why? You got it. I have to work. Good news though, I will indeed be at Ming & FS at Gabe's Oasis in Iowa City on Sunday Oct 24th. A show not to be missed. For more information on either of these events look to uniqueproductions.org or ubersonic.org for all your latest event listings. 09.21.04: Yikes snipes. I've had like 45 hour work weeks and it seems to be bogging me down a bit. Working like 3-4 days and then a couple nights is throwing my sleep pattern off quite the bit! Other than that, still working on updates on my site here and there. Most recent play lists are up on the KRUI page. Last night was fun as I did two hours to female producers/vocalists in electronica with a focus on electroclash, techno and a bit of experimental. In the next few weeks I will do another show dedicated to women in hiphop, drum n' bass and house music. I gotta run. L8--->Natster @ 13:11 PM 09.08.04/09.11.04: {{{Hola ebola.. well didn't quite make it to writing here in time. Seriously... not really meaning to slack. I had a crazy week at work and unfortunately had to miss djing and socializing @ Together festival. To all those that went, I hope things went well. Work had to take precedence this past weekend. Other than that, busy working and preparing for a move to my new studio apartment. Omg.. totally amazing. Hardwood floors, built in bookshelf, walk in closet etc.. Sushi tomorrow. More later. Smooches}}} p.s. My friends Erin and Sing got married this past weekend in Mason City, IA. Congratulations to both of you and best wishes for your future! More pics up soon.
08.16.04 1st Journal Post!! ++Well well.. looks like my goal of finally getting a website together are coming along as planned. There are so many additions and ideas that I have to work on, but one step at a time, it is quite overwhelming and addicting at times as it is. My newest addition to the site is finally getting a gallery up and running. There are soooo many photos that I've taken over the years so it may be a while before it is full and hearty. Soon enough though my pretties! I plan to fix a few things on the site.. such as arranging Cascading Color Sheets (CCS), eventual animation flash opening with a color wheel to choose your own color schemes with (if you don't like all of the bright bold colors that I am so fond of):-), as well as expanding my links page. Another HUGE project is going back and looking through old programming logs at 89.7 KRUI to archive my playlists from 2002 to present so that I may share with you all what I have played over the past few years. Of course, I won't be able to get them all... but quite a few will eventually be listed so that you'll be able to get an idea of what sort of music I play at the station and how this may differ from my vinyl dj/dancefloor tastes!! I think that this is enough for now.. I never thought this project would be so large, but it is and I'm looking forward to further expansion. Thanks for reading.. there will be more.++ Have patience with me, it will be worth the wait!! **Nati @ 21:44**
